Back in Mid 1998, PHP3 was the latest version of PHP, which is the
backend that powered the Florida Furs website and many other websites
you may regularly visit these days (such as Wikipedia). Back then, the
default naming for the files was .php3 to differentiate between "PHP/FI"
(i.e.: 2.0 and earlier) and the PHP 3 files.
After version 4 rolled around, they dropped the default necessity of
putting the number at the end of the file. So many sites just went on to
use ".php". The Florida Furs website has upgraded the version of PHP
many times since then (or so one would probably assume), but the
configuration for the file name stayed intact to not break the existing
links since there were many changes to the site necessary to go through.
Now that Yappy has been revamping the site, he's been changing the
URLs. Almost nobody uses ".php3" anymore. So I'm glad it's been finally
gotten rid of. But now you all know WHY it was there and why it's NOT
there now.
